The master builder on Sahara’s sands
A pyramid erected for his King,
His fame diffusing over many lands,
Thus hither his fair memory to bring.
Be thou my Queen and I thine architect,
That on the barren sands of fleeting time
Thy glory’s pyramid I may erect
To emblem forth thy mistressship sublime.
Thy state exceed my state, thy pride my pride,
As thought I were the echo of thy name,
The footprint where thy foot has deigned to stride,
The shadow of the pillar of thy fame.
Remembered thou, I too should happy be
To have been ancillary unto thee.
