To Thy Womanhood
A writ of exhortation I inscribe
To call thee to thy birthright and estate
And warn lest thou forget the noble tribe
Into whose strivings thou hast entered late.
Great enterprises long to be begun
And honored authorings to be achieved
And wild’ring paths of glory to be run
And voices that exhort to be believed.
No juggernaut hold I before thine eyes,
Nor drunk with folly, madness, lust for power,
Seek I to venture this, thy faith’s assize,
Dissuading thee ‘fore virtue’s task to cower.
Of womanhood, esteem I, thou hast such
That mightest thou to womanhood add much.
