Silver and Roses, Henna and Myrrh

Sun and Moon, Heaven and Earth

To The Mistress of Mine Augury

Upon the twenty-seventh day of March,

Within the fifty-second year before

The third millennium, the rainbow’s arch

Belonged upon the threshold of my door,

Because I deem that spectral bow a sign

Of Fortune’s favor and the ringing horn

Proclaiming Heaven’s bright and fair design,

Which smiled on me upon the rumored morn,

As when one night I lay beneath the Moon,

And whispered “Bar’bra Lynn” unto the night,

And, on my left, a star, appearing soon,

Shot through the welkin with a steak of light;

Portended thus a meteor on high

The rainbow’s love I hark for with a sigh.
